1st Half Term (Autumn Term)

In this unit, students will complete a workbook covering:

·      Corporate image

·      Logo design

·      Awareness of audience &

    purpose

·      Principles of leaflet design

·      Capturing images

 

Students will then complete an Assessment task based upon the knowledge and skills they have acquired whilst completing the workbook.

 

The activities in the workbooks are given an effort level and Assessment tasks are graded with a National Curriculum level.

Modeling & Presenting Numeric Data

2nd Half Term (Autumn Term)

In this unit, students will complete a workbook covering:

  • how to use spreadsheet software (entering and formatting data)
  • entering rules and formulae into a spreadsheet to perform calculations
  • data modeling

 

Students will then complete an Assessment task based upon the knowledge and skills they have acquired whilst completing the workbook.

 

The activities in the workbooks are given an effort level and Assessment tasks are graded with a National Curriculum level.

Control & Monitoring

1st Half Term (Spring Term)

In this unit, students will complete a workbook covering:

 

  • The use of control systems in everyday life
  • What sensors are and what they are used for
  • Flowcharts to control a system
  • How to create and test a control model

 

Students will then complete an Assessment task based upon the knowledge and skills they have acquired whilst completing the workbook.

 

The activities in the workbooks are given an effort level and Assessment tasks are graded with a National Curriculum level.

Test student on the correct sequence of light changes at a pedestrian crossing.

 

Discuss with students where they might see a computer controlled system in their day to day life.

 

Revise flow chart symbols.

Using Information Sources

2nd Half Term (Spring Term)

In this unit, students will complete a workbook covering:

  • Purposes of information
  • How to gather and collect information
  • How to search for information using different sources
  • How to conduct a survey
  • How information can be unreliable and inaccurate

 

Students will then complete an Assessment task based upon the knowledge and skills they have acquired whilst completing the workbook.

 

The activities in the workbooks are given an effort level and Assessment tasks are graded with a National Curriculum level.

 

Discuss validity, reliability and bias of information.

 

Encourage use of correct search techniques when using the Internet e.g. +, -, “ “(phrase searching) , etc.

Data Handling

2nd Half Term (Spring Term – 1st Half Term (Summer Term)

In this unit, students will complete a workbook covering:

  • How to use database software
  • Querying a database

 

Students will then complete an Assessment task based upon the knowledge and skills they have acquired whilst completing the workbook.

Using ICT – Video Editing

2nd Half Term (Summer Term)

 

 

 

In this unit, students will complete a workbook covering:

  • how to plan a video production for a particular purpose and audience
  • how to develop a video production using text, images and sound
  • how to edit video images and sound

 

Students will then complete an Assessment task based upon the knowledge and skills they have acquired whilst completing the workbook.

 

The activities in the workbooks are given an effort level and Assessment tasks are graded with a National Curriculum level.

Autumn Term

In this unit, students will complete a workbook covering:

  • Searching the Internet using the Boolean method
  • Validity, reliability and bias of information
  • Website design principles
  • Creating a website

 

Students will then complete an Assessment task based upon the knowledge and skills they have acquired whilst completing the workbook.

 

The activities in the workbooks are given an effort level and Assessment tasks are graded with a National Curriculum level.

Look at different websites and evaluate them in terms of design features and layout. 

 

Encourage use of correct search techniques when using the Internet e.g. AND, OR, NOT.

 

Discuss validity, reliability and bias of information.

 

Models & Presenting Numeric Data

1st Half Term (Spring Term)

In this unit, students will complete a

workbook covering:

  • Revisiting formulae and functions
  • Constructing, exploring and changing a spreadsheet model
  • The effect changing data will have on a spreadsheet model
  • Testing a spreadsheet model

 

Students will then complete an Assessment task based upon the knowledge and skills they have acquired whilst completing the workbook.

 

The activities in the workbooks are given an effort level and Assessment tasks are graded with a National Curriculum level.

 

Discuss definitions of financial terms e.g. Profit, Income, Expenses, Net, etc.

Public Information Systems

2nd Half Term (Spring Term)

In this unit, students will complete a

workbook covering:

  • Real time ICT information system
  • using software to store and present electronic data
  • exploring and interpreting collected data
  • automating simple processes
  • creating simple software routines
  • using different media and presentation techniques to show data in different ways

 

Students will then complete an Assessment task based upon the knowledge and skills they have acquired whilst completing the workbook.

 

The activities in the workbooks are given an effort level and Assessment tasks are graded with a National Curriculum level.

 

Discuss benefits of real-time ICT information systems e.g. flight arrivals and departures.

 

Revise graphs and charts (labelling axis, suitable titles, legend, etc)

ICT in Society Project

Summer Term

In this unit, students will complete a project covering 3 topics. They are:

  • ICT at Home
  • ICT at School
  • ICT in the Community

 

Each topic will be assessed and the overall project will be given an effort level and a National Curriculum level.

 

 

Discuss where ICT is used in your home and in what ways it has made a difference to family life – good or bad!!

September - October

Students complete are given a project based around a theme park.

 

The first task is to provide a solution to control a Log Flume ride.

 

 

Revise flow chart symbols.

 

Revise different types of sensors.

 

Discuss how control and monitoring has affected commercial and industrial processes e.g. automated safety checks on theme park rides.

Aspects of Data Handling

October - November

The second task is to advise the manager of the

Park which new ride to introduce – using set of survey results and database software

Revise validity, reliability and bias of information.

 

Discuss questionnaire design e.g. relevant vs non-relevant questions, open vs closed questions etc.

Aspects of Modeling

November - December

The third task within the project is to model the costs of introducing a new rollercoaster ride into the park by using spreadsheet software.

Discuss definitions of financial terms e.g. Profit, Income, Expenses, Net, Projected Costs etc.

Written report which describes and evaluates how ICT technologies are used to help Northumberland National Park Authority meet its objectives. 

 

Students can obtain a maximum of 10 marks.

An investigation into hardware & software used in an organization

Year 11

February - March

Written report which describes the different components of the GIS (Geographical Information System) used at Northumberland National Park and how the different components work together as a complete system to help the organization meet its objectives. 

 

Students can obtain a maximum of 14 marks.

 

Unit 2 constitutes 58 marks in total.
