Ryton - Be Good --- Be Green!

Week 9: Are you fully loaded?
Make sure that whoever does the washing in your house only uses the washing machine when it has a full load. Running the machine when it is only half full will use the same amount of electricity as a full load … so make sure it is full.

Old Tips

Week 8: To Recycle is good – To Reuse is better
When you have finished with something think whether it can be used for something else. Type “Reuse Ideas” into Google and you will get hundreds of ideas of how to reuse your rubbish.

Week 7: Only use a full load
Who does the washing in your house? Well whoever it is make sure that you only run your washing machine with a full load. The average wash uses 100 litres of water!

Week 6: Turn that tap off
Did you know that turning the taps off when you brush your teeth, can save up to 5 litres a minute? If the entire adult population of England and Wales did likewise, this could save a total of 180 mega litres a day – enough to supply nearly 500,000 houses. Saving water at home, in the garden or at school takes very little effort, but makes a surprisingly big difference.

Week 5: Is it really turned off?
Make sure that you turn your TV off every night using the button on the front not just the remote. If the little light is on you are wasting electricity.

Week 4: Use both sides
Whenever you print why not use scrap paper that still has one blank side. At home fill your paper tray with scrap paper and only change it when you are printing your final copy.

Week 3: Say “NO” to bags!
The next time you buy something at a shop and they begin to put it into a bag, if you can, say “No thanks” to the bag.

Week 2: Mobile Phone Chargers – What a drain!
Unplug your mobile phone charger from the socket when you are not using it. Even if it does not have a phone on the end, if it is plugged in it is using electricity.

Week 1: Save paper – Would you Credit it?
Don’t print out every time you see something on the Internet. Watch your printer credits!
