A Level Chemistry

Our objective is to ensure that learning is enjoyable and enhances a candidate’s enthusiasm for Chemistry.  The AQA course is tailored to follow on from Additional Science at GCSE and will develop a candidate’s knowledge and understanding to provide a pathway to further study.

AS Units

Unit 1 – CHEM1:  Foundation Chemistry

In this unit you will learn about the basics for studying A level. You will study atoms, bonding, periodicity and oil.  You will be taught the maths to study reacting quantities.

Unit 2 – CHEM2:  Chemistry in Action

We look at the energies changes during a reaction, monitor rates and get to grips with equilibrium.  We study Groups 2, 7 and the transition metal.  We explore organic chemistry and the chemical industry.

Unit 3 – CHEM3: Investigative and Practical Skills

In this unit you will learn every aspect of practical Chemistry. We will teach you how to carry out a wide variety of practical techniques.

A2 Units

Unit 7 – CHEM4: Kinetics, Equilibria and Organic

In this unit you will develop your knowledge of, and skills introduced in AS.  We start looking at topics in more depth and build upon the Knowledge gained in AS.

Unit 8 – CHEM5:Enegetics, Redox and Inorganic Chemistry

This unit will introduce you to chaos and Free Energy.  You will look at batteries and electrode potentials.  We will explore the Chemistry of the elements in the third period and develop our knowledge of Transition metals.

Unit 10 – CHEM6: Investigative and Practical Skills

In this unit you will develop even more practical skills. We will teach you how to carry out even more practical techniques.

Progression

An A Level in Chemistry will allow you access to various professions such as: Agriculture, Biochemistry. Engineering, Optometry, Pharmacy, Finance, Politics and Law.

An A Level in Chemistry is now essential for anybody who wishes to be an undergraduate studying for a degree in Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science.  Most Universities will not accept you onto any of these or other medical degrees without a B or above in Chemistry.
