BTEC National Diploma Creative Media Production

 

The BTEC Diploma in Creative Media Production is made up of 13 units over 2 years.

 

Some students may choose to exit the course after 1 year and will receive the BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Creative Media Production (Television and Film) qualification on completion of 7 Units.

 

Unit 1 - Pre-Production Techniques for the Creative Media Industries

This unit will develop your understanding the skills in pre-production. You will plan for a production such as making a video, learning how to organise and deploy resources and understand legal and safety issues.

 

Unit 2 - Communication Skills For Creative Media Production

In this unit you will develop your ability to communicate your thoughts and ideas through pitches, proposals and reports to a range of audiences using appropriate modes of address and forms of technology.

 

Unit 3 - Research Techniques For the Creative Media Industries 

Through this unit you will develop understanding of and skills in research relevant to create media products. You will present their findings in written and oral forms and learn how to cite and reference sources.

 

Unit 4 – Creative Media Production Management Project

In this unit you will manage the production of a media product from the initial idea through to completion. You will develop your own ideas and set your own topic for this production.

 

Unit 5 – Working to a Brief in the Creative Media Industries

This unit will help you develop your understanding of going through the whole process of working to a brief from initial

 

negotiations, through the developing and realising of ideas in liaison with the client, to final self-evaluation on completion of the work.

 

Unit 8 – Understanding the Creative Media Sector

This unit aims to develop your knowledge of the Creative Media Sector and the structure of organisations and companies. The unit will develop their understanding of job roles, working practices and regulation, and will enable you to prepare the necessary documentation to apply for a job in these industries.

 

 

Optional Units

 

Students take 7 optional units over the two years that could include;

·         Advertising Production Techniques

·         Stop Motion Animation Production

·         Single Camera Techniques

·         Film and Video Editing Techniques

·         Corporate and Promotional Video Production

·         Factual Program Production Techniques for Television

·         Multi Camera Techniques

·         Producing Print Based Media

 

Students learn through a series of practical work related assignments for each unit. For example researching target audience (unit 3) and filming and editing an advert for a new brand of clothing reflecting your research (unit 30).

 

Assessment details

Each assignment is assessed as Pass, Merit or Distinction and these marks add together to give a Pass Merit or Distinction for the course. A Distinction is worth the same UCAS points as an A at A Level, Merit is the same as a C, and a Pass is the same as an E at A Level. There is no Exam.

 

Entry Requirements

To study this course you should also have an interest in developing the knowledge and skills associated with media production. You do not have to have taken BTEC Media in Year 10 and 11 to undertake the course.
