Ryton Parents – Year 9 Options – Asdan/CoPE/Occupational Oportunities
ASDAN, CoPE and Occupational Opportunities (O2) are courses aimed
at students who would benefit from studying a reduced number of GCSE
subjects. Students who follow any of
these courses will still study a core curriculum of English, Maths, Science and
I.C.T. These programmes focus on
preparation for the world of work and personal development. Students who follow any of these courses will
develop a wide range of life skills as well as the opportunity to work towards qualifications
such as the ASDAN Bronze award, the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness and
Level 1 college course.
These courses are
tailored to the needs of the individual however opportunities and experiences open
to students include:

Level
1 career related qualifications in one of the following areas: motor vehicle,
hair, hospitality, construction.
·
Outdoor
education and catering modules that can contribute to students achieving an
ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network) Bronze Award.
·
Work
experience.
·
The
opportunity to gain the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award.
Students will be advised
whether they are well suited to any of these courses.
