Construction
What is
the course structure?
The course
is made up of six units – three core units that everyone takes and three
specialist units. The specialist units
enable you to study particular areas in more depth.
What
topics will I study?
All
students take the three core units taught in school:
An
introduction to the Construction Industry
Exploring
Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction
The use of
Science and Mathematics in Construction
You will
also take three specialist units:
Practical
(taught at
Exploring
Carpentry and Joinery
Exploring
Trowel Operations
Exploring
Painting and Decorating
The practical
units are particularly aimed at students who are interested in the craft side
of the construction industry.
Assessment
All units
are assessed and graded through a series of assignments, students also produce
evidence from practical tasks and activities carried out at College, the two
sets of grades are combined and an overall grade for the qualification
is awarded.
What can I
do at the end of the course?
With
further training or study, students may progress into careers in the
Construction industry including:
Carpentry/Joinery,
Brickwork, Painting and Decorating ,Site Technician.
A BTEC
First Diploma in Construction can prepare you for employment and provides a
good grounding to go on to a more advanced course, such as:
A BTEC
National Diploma, Certificate or Award in Construction, Modern Apprenticeship
