Ryton Parents – Year 9 Options – BTEC ICT Certificate/Extended Certificate

 

What is the course structure?

 

The Certificate (the equivalent of 1 GCSE) is a course that consists of two units of work – one mandatory unit that every student takes and another specialist unit. 

 

The Extended Certificate (the equivalent of 2 GCSE's) is a course that consists of three units of work – two mandatory units that every student takes and another specialist unit. 

 

What subjects will I study?

 

All students take the core unit(s):

 

Working in the IT Industry

Communicating in the IT Industry (Extended Certificate only)

 

Another specialist unit will be covered - which will be decided upon in the near future.

 

 

How is the course assessed?

 

Students will produce evidence from tasks, activities and assignments that relate to specified criteria.  All units are assessed and moderated internally. An overall grade of pass, merit or distinction for the qualification is awarded.

 

What can I do at the end of the course?

 

With further training or study, students can go into careers or further education in the IT industry.

 

A BTEC First Certificate prepares you for employment and provides a good grounding to go on to a more advanced course such as:

 

BTEC Level 3 National Certificate in IT Practitioners
