A Universe of Information

There is so much information out there on the internet that it’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you’re trying to find what you want.

On this page, we aim to help you to find reliable information quickly.

The internet is an excellent source for many things, but always remember that when you’re trying to find facts, BOOKS ARE BEST! (They’ve been written by experts, edited and checked, unlike most websites)

Click here for a list of the best Reference Books: all of them are in the library.

To find a book on a particular topic, use the Book-finder which you will find on the counter. Click here to look at it.

The Library Catalogue is available on all the computers in the library. Go to Programs > All Programs > Library Catalogue Click here for information about how to use it.

Online Encyclopaedia

After books, the most reliable source of information online is an encyclopaedia. Wikipedia is understandably popular, but for an accurate source of information specifically for school work, use the Heinemann World Book Online.

You can access this from the school’s intranet home-page and by clicking on the logo above. NB: You can also access it from home.

Plagiarism

When you find information on the internet, you should make a note of where you found it. Never cut and paste information into your work and pretend you wrote it. That’s called plagiarism, and it’s deceitful: in fact, it is sometimes referred to as a kind of theft! Teachers, examining boards and universities take it very seriously.
