The Sixth Form section in the Millennium centre consists of the following:
• Study room
• Sixth form non-fiction
• Senior Fiction
• Careers Library
There are staff in Library from 8am, and the sixth form are welcome to work in the library at anytime, whenever there is space available.
You can find out what's free when, by looking at the booking sheets which are kept at the desk.
The sixth form books are in the upper area opposite the heads of year offices. They've all got green labels on the spine, and they're organised into subject areas. Use the book finder to find what's where. Dont forget when you're looking for information that if we don't have what you need in the sixth form section, there are plenty of up-to-date and potentially useful books in the main non-fiction area.
You're probably all pretty confident about finding information on the internet, but if you would like some help with improving your search skills, go to Programs > Read Students > Information Skills and take 10 minutes to work through the document called Searching the Internet with Google OR pick up a leaflet at the librarians' desk.
New magazines and periodicals are put on display on the rack, and as each new one comes, we file the last copy in the periodicals box which is kept in the appropriate subject area of the sixth form section.
These are some of the titles on offer:
• History Today
• English Review
• Geographic
• New Scientist
• BBC Wildlife
• Sight & Sound.
If there are any magazines you'd like us to get, come and see the librarians. Donations of magazines, books, videos and DVDs would also be welcomed.
We're always open to suggestions, and if you have any ideas for ways in which we could improve the library, we'd welcome your input.
You could just speak to one of the staff, or if you're shy or you want to remain anonymous, write your idea down in the suggestions book that we keep on the counter.
The university prospectuses are kept in the sixth form study room. Each prospectus has a clearly-marked box. These copies are for reference only, and we would obviously be grateful if you would just put them back in the correct box when you've finished with them. Please do not put them in the wrong boxes.
